Royal Sevillian Confraternity of Our Lady of Montemayor

This Brotherhood was canonically established in the church of San Juan de la Palma on 20 August 1956, following the approval of its rules by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Seville (vicario general del arzobispado de Sevilla), with the intention of fostering devotion to the Patroness of Moguer, Huelva.

On October 7th 1956, the image of the Blessed Virgin of Montemayor (Santísima Virgen de Montemayor) was blessed. The sculpture, a reproduction of the image venerated in Moguer, is the work of Francisco Buiza, who had trained in the workshop of Sebastián Santos Rojas, author of the Moguer image in 1937. The blessing was performed by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese , Valentín Gómez.

In the nave of the Epistle , the Virgin presides over a gilded altarpiece in Neo-Baroque style crowned by a circular element and set into a niche within the very structure of the church.

In May 2002, Our Lady of Montemayor (Virgen de Montemayor) was carried in procession for the first time through the streets of Seville, when she presided over an altar erected by the General Council of Brotherhoods (Consejo General de Hermandades) on the Avenida de la Constitución. This took place on the occasion of the Solemnity of Corpus Christiin an initiative especially dedicated to those Brotherhoods of Glory (Hermandades de Gloria) that did not ordinarily hold an annual public procession
Since 2015, the Brotherhood has held its procession annually and on a regular basis, in accordance with its rules. The image was likewise designated to preside over the Proclamation of the Glories of Mary (Pregón de las Glorias de María) in the Holy Cathedral Church in 2020, although the event had to be postponed until October 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every year, the Brotherhood participates in the Pilgrimage (Romería) held in the pinewoods of Moguer on the second Sunday of May. In Seville, it celebrates its Processional Departure in October, as well as the traditional hand-kissing ceremony (besamanos) in honour of the Blessed Virgin on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción).
